HOME VISITS

IMG_1710.jpg

I was not sure what to expect during the home visits, but it turned out to be one of my favorite days. Entering peoples’ homes and observing their living conditions and home environment provided us with great insight and a more holistic view of the patient than if they were to have gone to the doctor or even come to us at one of our health fairs. The entire time we were walking the community and going house to house, there was only one individual who did not accept us nor permit us to test his blood pressure and blood sugar. I was shocked to find everyone so welcoming and hospitable. Even though they did not know we were coming, they invited us into their homes like we were all old friends.

One of my favorite families had three generations in the house, which included a grandmother, mother, and three boys all under the age of ten. The boys were absolutely fascinated with what we were doing and wanted to have their blood pressure and sugar tested as well. Because they were very inquisitive, it was an excellent opportunity to practice educating according to the literacy level of the individual.
