SERVICE LEARNING

     According to the National Service Learning Clearinghouse, service learning is defined as “a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities.”

     This service learning experience allowed me the opportunity to take my knowledge and skills and apply them outside of the classroom. I can say with confidence that there is a plethora of incredible benefits that came out of a program such as this. I have developed greater interpersonal skills, such as communication, working with others, and leadership. Reduced stereotypes is an outcome along with enhanced inter-cultural understanding. It has also provided me with a greater relationship with the University of Florida as I know have stronger relationships with faculty and higher satisfaction with college. It sparked in me a new energy, eagerness, and perspective for community work.
